Interview with the Vampire thoughts
Oct. 19th, 2022 05:24 pmI've been watching this show. It is not really like the books in feel or setting. I have to say I was disappointed when I saw the trailer and saw that they were going to set it so far forward in time. I understand why they did (casting Louis) but I felt sure it would not work. I wasn't going to watch it at all. I was annoyed that, once again, they were messing with the story.
However, I gave in after the millionth time of it being advertised and started watching. I really am liking the show. But I do need to stop thinking that it's Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire and just go with the journey they are taking me on. It's like an alternative universe fan fiction; the same character names, same VERY basic plot, but everything else is different.
After four episodes, I think the actors are doing a great job although Jacob Anderson (Louis) is stealing the show from Sam Reid (Lestat).
I'm assuming it will be the same with the Mayfair Witches show also (coming out next year I think) in that it will be the same character names but, basically, an alternative universe. It's been a while since I read those so maybe I won't keep trying to compare it to the books.
Even though there were a lot of things missing from the movie with Tom Cruise (I HATE Tom Cruise) and Brad Pitt, it at least FELT like the books and everyone played their parts surprisingly well.
Queen of the Damned was horrendous, miscast, was a hodgepodge of plot lines that didn't go together, and missed everything from the book completely. The soundtrack was okay though.
I know it would be very difficult to be completely true to Anne Rice's books since they are often full of things other than just pure plot and are often convoluted. However, I do wish they were NOT calling it "Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire" and call it something like BASED ON or SORT OF LIKE or a HOMAGE TO Interview with the Vampire.
