I'm going on vacation later this week and will have a blissful 7 days off (including weekends). I usually go on vacation in October or November since I live in central Texas and it's HOT for most of the year (and the kids are back in school by that time). When I made the reservation several months ago, I looked at the "estimated" weather and saw that it would be in the low 70's during the day and the 40 & 50's at night. However, when I looked at the forecast just now, it will be in the mid-80s during the day. Bummer. But by mid-November it starts raining more so...
I don't do well outside if it's above 70. 65 is ideal for me and then I'm usually still wearing shorts if it's not windy. Not that there is a lot to do outside where I'm going. Technically, it's a ranch in the middle of nowhere about 1.5 hours west of San Antonio. It has tiny homes on it. No children or pets are allowed. Not on the flight path of any airplanes. No major road runs near it. Really bad cellphone reception (but they do have wifi). Just the sounds of nature and some of the animals they have there (cows, antelope, chickens, etc). There are 'hiking' trails which means a path between the cedar and scrub bushes.
Ironically, I found it while doing research for a Forever Knight story. I was clicking around on the map, looking at ranches, hunting leases, etc. And I randomly clicked on this ranch and went to the website. It sounded like heaven. Well, for a short time.
I'm a severe introvert and am perfectly happy not speaking to anyone for weeks at a time so this will be perfect for me. I'm really looking forward to the quiet. They do have a hammock and a hot tub so maybe I'll lay out in the hammock and be inspired to write something.
